are small rough papules that are similar in color to the skin. They typically do not result in other symptoms, except when on the bottom of the feet, where they may be painful. While they usually occur on the hands and feet, they can also affect other locations. One or many warts may appear, but the lesions are not cancerous.
Warts are caused by infection with a type of human papillomavirus (HPV). Factors that increase the risk include use of public showers and pools, eczema and a weak immune system. The virus is believed to enter the body through skin that has been damaged slightly. A number of types exist, including "common warts", plantar warts, and genital warts. Genital warts are often sexually transmitted.
Warts are very common, with most people being infected at some point in their lives. The estimated current rate of non-genital warts among the general population is 1–13%. They are more common among young people. The estimated rate of genital warts in sexually active women is 12%.
A number of treatments may be used including salicylic acid applied to the skin and cryotherapy. In those who are healthy, they do not typically result in significant problems.
Treatment ― OTC Drugs
Among salicylic acid formulations, a brush type salicylic acid is better for the long time use. When applied, the drug spreads around, so it is better to apply a little narrower than the size of the affected area. Older warts are often deep, so deep warts may take months to treat. Cryotherapy may be another treatment option, but keep in mind that cryotherapy also takes a long time to treat warts. If the wart doesn't be removed completely, it can spread further through the wound.

When warts occur around the genitals, they are diagnosed as condyloma.
This is a typical plantar wart. The absence of a callus on the toe is an important finding. If a callus-like lesion occurs in a person without a previous history of callus, it is usually a wart.

Since it is a symmetrical lesion, callus should also be considered. The callus on the heel suggests that the patient may have walked a lot.
